Niagara Falls Humane Society

Being a huge lover of animals I thought it fitting to write about the Niagara Falls Humane Society. The NFHS is a place where animals are given food, shelter and love until they are placed into homes. This humane society does not euthanize healthy, adoptable animals.

Niagara Falls Humane Society Adoption

This is Olivia. She is a rescued dog from Louisiana. She is very loving and playful and needs a good home! Call 905-356-4404 for info.

Thinking about getting a pet? Adoption couldn’t be easier at the Humane Society. When you adopt you not only get the satisfaction of knowing you helped a cute little animal find a good home but you also get a wealth of information about adoption along with staff support. I understand that kittens and puppies are cute but trust me the satisfaction of adopting an older animal is far more rewarding. These animals just want to have a nice home with loving owners.  So please visit the Niagara Falls Humane Society if you are thinking about a pet.

I guarantee you will fall in love with the animals and end up taking one home!

GET INVOLVED! Donate money, food, supplies or just your time. I know that volunteers are always needed! Every little bit helps and is very appreciated by the staff.

Niagara Square Shopping Centre:  Visit the Adoption Center located in the Niagara Square Shopping Mall. It is a really relaxed environment where you can interact with the animals. I bring my nephew every so often so he can interact with the animals and build a healthy connection with them. So bring your kids, relatives or just yourself and visit the adoption centre!

MONDAY NIGHT GIRLS’ NIGHT @ MILESTONES GRILL + BAR

Looking for a fun night out with the girls? Then head out to Milestones Grill + Bar on Monday Nights: 4 Bellinis, 4 Appetizers – Just $40. Last night I experienced my first girls’ night out at Milestones with my girlfriends and we will definitely be heading back. We toasted the evening with our Bellinis in hand: a delicious frozen concoction of white rum, peach liqueur, sparkling white wine, topped with sangria and a red high heel of course. My best friend wouldn’t have been herself if she didn’t ask all the girls for their red heels for her daughter’s Barbie shoe collection (I can’t wait to see Barbie sporting those hot numbers on her date with Ken).

Then we got to choose our 4 appetizers. We had the California spring salad, hot spinach and artichoke dip, baked goat cheese platter, and the crispy phyllo shrimp. So delicious and the portion size was perfect. The dessert was one of my favourites: Vanilla cookie dough ice cream (homemade) served in a Milestones’ Break-up Tub and 4 spoons (how perfect is that – brilliant marketing folks). And the best part is we only spent $20 each. It’s not often that you can have a cocktail, shareable appetizers and dessert for only $20 a piece (including tip). Oh I almost forgot (being from Niagara Falls and all), the view is incredible. Our table was situated only 200 yards from the brink of the Falls. What a perfect way to start the week. Next week, I will definitely be finding myself a dinner companion for Date Night – 2 Dine for only $50.

Love ice cream as much as me? Check out the Avondale Dairy Bar in Niagara on the Lake.

NIAGARA KIDS BACK TO SCHOOL

Goodbye Summer vacation! In about 2 weeks the kids are going back to school. Parents can stop cheering now! :) Being somewhat of a ‘foodie’ I recently tried a great recipe on my nephew ( a very picky eater) and he loved it! His mother has tried everything to get him to eat his fruits & veggies. The key is to make the food interesting. Kids like their sandwich bread to be cut into animal shapes, they love to dip veggies, crackers, fruit into yogurt or ketchup or pasta sauce. Be creative. It takes a bit of work but hey if you get that picky kid to eat you can give yourself a pat on the back!
 School Lunches
For the Niagara parents out there here is a cool lunch menu chart to help you pack your kids lunches this school year:

THE GOOD EARTH FOOD AND WINE CO.

As we’ve mentioned time and time again, there are so many wonderful things to do during your visit to the Niagara region. Booking a few days is a must and you’ll find each time you visit there is something new and exciting to do each and every time. In September, you definitely have to check out the Good Earth Food and Wine Company either before or after your trip to Niagara Falls.

Since 1998, the Good Earth Food and Wine Co. have opened their gardens, orchards and vineyards to guests who share a passion for fine food and wine. This experience reflects the “good things our lovely earth has to offer.” (hence the name of their company).

September’s calendar is overflowing with deliciousness.

September 5th – Starlight Movie Night

Say farewell to summer and prepare to welcome fall with wonderful “foodie” flicks, delicious wine and great conversations with the starry sky as your rooftop.

September 18th – Sipping News

Here there will be a lot to sip about…Sip a goblet or two of last year’s grape goodness paired with a fabulous menu to compliment those fine grapes.

Be sure to check their monthly calendar to see what other fine events pop up. One thing is for sure, your palate will definitely be pleased.

Here’s another delicious way to tempt those taste buds. Don’t miss out on St.Catharines Summer O’ Licious, which runs until August 28th.

PINK & CAREY HART IN NIAGARA FALLS

Fallsview Boulevard is sure to be the place to be tomorrow in Niagara Falls.  The grand opening of Hart and Huntington, the first in Canada, will be taking place on the Boulevard; it will be a jammed packed day full of live music (including local bands), autograph sessions, BMX demonstrations and even a red-carpet after-party at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville.

I plan on starting the day around 12pm, when the official ribbon cutting begins, hoping to catch a glimpse of Carey Hart and maybe even his wife Pink, who is rumored to be in attendance!

The after-party kicks off at 9pm. Tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis for $125 which can be purchased at the shop.  This includes your admission to Margaritaville and food @ 10pm and 12:30am. (you must be 19+ to attend)

I can not wait, it is sure to be a day to remember.

See you there!

Summer O Licious

If you love trying new restaurants as much as I do, you’d be happy to know that downtown St. Catharines is hosting their annual Summer O Licious. From August 13 – August 28 participating restaurants in the downtown area offer 3 course lunch and/or dinner menus at fixed and reasonable prices. Lunch menus range from $10 – $15 and dinner menus range from $14 – $35 (majority of dinner menus are $20 or $25). It’s a great opportunity to either try somewhere that you otherwise may not, or just re-visit an old favourite on the cheap.Summerolicious at The Office

A few nights ago my friends and I went to The Office for a $20 meal. We have all been there already but we chose it because we all love going there: we love the food, the atmosphere, the cheap martinis and the BYOW…bring your own wine of course! If you bring in your own wine from Monday to Wednesdays it’s free corkage! Thursdays are “Corks for Cancer Care” which means that your $5.00 corkage fee will be donated to the “It’s Your Time” campaign.

Our meal was fantastic and it was so nice catching up with good friends – what a great way to breaking up the work week. I highly recommend taking advantage of Summer O Licious while it lasts. Who knows, you may just find your new favourite restaurant!
